Arms, Charles (Charlie) I.

I graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1966 and Officers Training School in January 1967, narrowly avoiding a draft notice that arrived as I began OTS.  I attended pilot training (Class 68E) at Vance AFB, OK, and was assigned to fly C-141s after graduation from UPT; I completed C-141 training at Tinker AFB in 1968.

I flew for my entire 24-year Air Force career, successfully avoiding an Air Force desk job. After retirement, I flew for World Airways, Southwest Airlines, and a Greek-American shipping magnate, based in Geneva, Switzerland.

Air Force aircraft flown after pilot training:

C-141A Starlifter, 8th MAS, McChord and then 30th MAS, McGuire AFB after Vietnam

O-2A Skymaster, Tam Ky, Vietnam (as a Forward Air Controller) and Osan AB,Korea

C-140A Jetstar, 99 MAS, Andrews AFB and 58 MAS, Ramstein AB, Germany

C-20A/B Gulfstream III, 99 MAS, Andrews AFB and 58, MAS, Ramstein AB, Germany

Commercial Aircraft flown after retirement from the Air Force:

      MD-11, World Airways

      Boeing 737-200, -300, -500, and -700, Southwest Airlines

      Boeing Business Jet, corporate

Retired from flying with 25,000+ hours.

I’ve been married to Anita (also a retired AF officer) since 1977.  We lived in Falls Church, VA from 1994 until 2013, when we moved to South Carolina.  We lived in Greenville while our home on Lake Keowee was being built.  We moved to Sunset, SC in December 2014, where we live with our daredevil rescue cat, Bodie Miller, and watch the sun set over the lake every evening.
